Joint Russian-Turkish patrol run in Qamishli countryside
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Russian military police and Turkish forces conducted a joint patrol in the border area between the cities of Terbespi and Jil Agha in the Qamishli countryside, northeast Syria.
The patrol, consisting of five Russian and four Turkish armored vehicles accompanied by two Russian helicopters, left Deruna Agi village near Jil Agha.
The patrol roamed border villages between the two cities for around 25 kilometers, reaching the vicinity of the Mazkfat Dam in Tirbespi before the Turkish vehicles returned to their entry point in Deruna Agi and into Turkish territory.
Russian and Turkish forces have been conducting joint patrols in northeastern Syria according to an agreement signed by the two parties in the Russian city of Sochi in fall 2019, after a Turkish military invasion of Syria’s Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad.
Since the agreement, Turkish vehicles have been running joint patrols with Russia without raising the Turkish flag due to the anger it evokes from the region’s residents.
