Syrian regime’s plans serve Turkey, says Syriac Christian politician
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkey has been the greatest beneficiary of the Damascus government’s plans in the cities of Hasakah and Qamishli and its incitement against the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a member of the administrative body of the Syriac Union Party said on Wednesday.
In a statement to North Press, member of the administrative body of the Syriac Union Party Robil Behho accused both the Syrian and Turkish regimes of “dragging the area into a new war.”
Hasakah and Qamishli have witnessed security tension between the government soldiers and the AANES’ Internal Security Forces (Asayish) for about a month.
On Sunday morning, a government soldier lost his life and others were wounded in a shootout that took place between Asayish and the National Defense Forces (NDF), which followed the government instructions to conduct a demonstration heading to the AANES-held areas, as they attacked an Asayish checkpoint.
On Tuesday, Asayish announced in a statement the “return of normal life” to Hasakah and Qamishli.
Damascus makes use of its loyal clerics and beneficiaries of Ba’ath Party in order to confront the AANES, according to Behho.
“The government should take responsibility for the consequences of what it has promoted for a month and find a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis, instead of resorting to inappropriate methods,” as he added.
“Damascus cannot create sectarian conflict between Arabs and Kurds according to its plan,” Behno said.
The nature of the region’s relations and the AANES approach in dealing with different peoples and affiliations do not allow this, “unlike the totalitarian Syrian regime that denies all nationalities and communities,” according to Behho.
“Damascus should care for Syrians in all parts of Syria, not only those in the Security Squares in Hasakah and Qamishli and work to smooth the stifling livelihood conditions that exhausted different parts in Syria,” he pointed out.
