Syrian security forces arrest Suwayda man over financial ties with Emirati businessmen
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Members of the State Security Branch of the Syrian government in Salkhad, in the Druze majority Suwayda, arrested Omar Obaid on charges of having ties to terrorism.
Twenty state security members broke into Obeid’s house in Salkhad on Monday evening and dragged him to an unknown destination, a relative of Obaid told North Press.
He further explained that after investigation by the State Security branch, they accused him of cooperating with an Emirati businessman financing terrorism in Syria.
A delegation from the family of the detainee went to the Akl Sheikhdom of the Druze Unitarian Community in the city of Suwayda to attempt to interfere and mediate with the government security branch to release the young man.
On Sunday, the Chief of Information Security at the Criminal Security Branch in Suwayda issued a circular to government departments regarding the penalty for information crimes against the Syrian government.
On Sunday, the Ministry of Interior issued a statement saying that the Criminal Security Department had arrested eight people for the offense of communicating and dealing with suspicious websites.
A Syrian anchor, who worked previously in a pro-government channel, was one of those arrested and accused of leaking information to an anti-government news agency, according to local sources.
