Assassination attempt of an intelligence member in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – An unidentified armed group attempted to assassinate an Air Force Intelligence agent on Sunday in the town of Jassem, in the eastern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria.
A local source in the town, who preferred not to be named, told North Press that the attempt to assassinate the officer was part of the mutual assassination operations between the government forces and the opposition groups.
He pointed out that after the assassination attempt, the government forces brought military reinforcements to the Jassem military checkpoint.
One of the notables of the western countryside of Daraa told North Press that the areas of the western countryside of Daraa are witnessing a state of uneasy calm.
This comes after military confrontations between the pro-government Fourth Division forces and the local opposition groups against the backdrop of the latter’s rejection of the government’s terms.
He pointed out that the government’s terms, which include the displacement of local groups’ leaders to northwestern Syria, were completely rejected.
On January 28, unknown armed individuals assassinated Mamdouh al-Mafa’lani, mayor of the town of Nahtah, in the eastern countryside of Daraa.
Local sources told North Press that al-Mafa’lani was shot by unknown gunmen in front of his house.
