Opposition militant killed in clashes in Syria’s north Aleppo

AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – An opposition militant was killed and others were wounded Tuesday-Wednesday night, after an attack on a checkpoint of the Sultan Murad Division in the village of Tat Homs in the countryside of al-Rai city, north of Aleppo.

A local source told North Press that unknown assailants on a motorcycle fired at a checkpoint of the Sultan Murad Division on the outskirts of the village, killing one member and wounding 3 others, who were transferred to the city hospital.

The Sultan Murad Division operates in al-Rai area, north of Aleppo, and is considered the most prominent component of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) in the region.

Al-Rai city, 60 km from the city of Aleppo, has been under control of Turkish-backed armed opposition groups since August 18, 2016, after ISIS lost the city.

On the 18th of January, a member of al-Muntaser Billah group, part of the SNA, was wounded in an assassination attempt in the industrial district of Bab city.

The opposition held areas in northwestern Syria, are insecure and unstable as assassinations and thefts continue, while residents fear further deterioration of the situation as the armed groups have failed to control security.
