IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Syrian government forces targeted fortifications of Turkish-backed armed opposition groups in southern Idlib as part of a mutual bombardment between the two parties, with information about casualties.
The de-escalation areas in northwest Syria are witnessing military escalation by Syrian government forces and the armed groups, despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement signed between Turkey and Russia last year.
A military source told North Press that the government forces bombed the positions of the armed groups in the village of Fateera in Zawiya Mountain with artillery and missiles.
The government bombardment resulted in significant material losses to public and private property in the targeted locations, according to the source.
The shelling coincided with an intense flight of reconnaissance aircraft over the airspace of the region, without mentioning any information indicating casualties.
On Sunday, the Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room announced that it was able to thwart an attempt by the Syrian government forces to advance on the front of the southern countryside of Idlib.
Field sources told North Press that the armed groups repelled an infiltration attempt by government forces at dawn today on the front of Fulayfil village, in the de-escalation zone, south of Idlib Governorate.
Violent clashes took place between opposition factions and the advancing groups of the Syrian government forces, which led to casualties on both sides.
