Iranian-backed groups fortify against Israeli strikes in Syrian Desert
PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – Two days ago, Iranian Revolutionary Guard-backed groups brought excavators to the outskirts of Palmyra in the Syrian Desert in order to establish fortifications to protect their fighters and equipment against any potential new Israeli strikes.
The Afghan Shia Liwa Fatemiyoun and Iraqi Hezbollah brought excavators from the cities of Palmyra and Homs to the outskirts of Palmyra in order to dig underground tunnels and warehouses for the Iranian-backed groups.
Tunnels and three warehouses will be established near the military headquarters for fortification against any new Israeli strikes on the area, an official in Lebanese Hezbollah told North Press.
Finishing the construction will take a month, and the warehouses would be distributed to Liwa Fatemiyoun, Liwa Zaynabyoun, and Hezbollah in order to store their military equipment, according to the source.
Syrian Desert has been witnessing mobilization in the Iranian-backed groups’ ranks after being targeted by Israeli intensive strikes in Deir ez-Zor last Wednesday.
After the Israeli strikes, Iranian-backed groups raised Syrian government flags over their points and checkpoints there for camouflage against Israeli attacks, according to local sources.
