Syria’s Air Force Intelligence responsible for continuing tension in Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, an official source in the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) held Syria’s Air Force Intelligence responsible for the continuing tension between the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian government in the city of Qamishli.
The city, which is located on the Turkish border in northeastern Syria, has been witnessing security tension for a week, amid mutual arrests between the Asayish and the Syrian government forces.
On April 21, the city of Qamishli experienced security tension between the Asayish and the Syrian government-affiliated militants, which began when members of the Syrian government’s National Defense started bringing members to a checkpoint near Bassem Ishaq School in Helko neighborhood in the southern side of the city as they opened fire on Asayish members.
In exclusive statements to North Press, the official revealed, on condition of anonymity, that the Syrian government’s Air Force Intelligence branch has arrested five members of Asayish and two employees of AANES institutions.
Meanwhile, the Asayish arrested five members of the Syrian government forces, according to the source.
He said, “The Air Force Intelligence Branch, headed by a colonel named (Ahmed), who is in charge of Qamishli airport, is creating problems and he is the one who started the arrests.”
Security sources told North Press that a meeting brought together leaders of Asayish and the Syrian government forces in the city of Qamishli on Monday.
But North Press was unable to obtain additional information about the results of the meeting, which took place between the two parties under the auspices of the Russian forces.
