TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups shelled the countryside of Syria’s Tel Tamr on Tuesday night, which forced terrified residents to flee and destroyed their property.
Residents of Derdara village, five kilometers north of Tel Tamr, spent most of Tuesday night in the open after more than four hours of Turkish shelling bombarded the village and its surroundings.
Derdara village resident Ibrahim al-Dawud said: “We all fled; the shelling started at 8:15 PM. All the elderly and the children fled. The shelling lasted until 1:00 AM. We fled with our children in the open in the very cold.”
“People rushed to move their livestock, which is their only source of livelihood; others hid in the house such as the old men and women. This is our situation every time the shelling starts,” Dawud added.
Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups have been repeatedly targeting the Tel Tamr countryside since they invaded Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad (Gire Spi) in 2019.
Village resident Fatima Muhammad said, “I cannot walk or move; they must drag me. I have nothing but Allah’s mercy and his help.”
“They shell here and there. They do not have mercy.”
The Turkish shelling of the countryside of Tel Tamr coincides with the continued attacks on the town of Ain Issa in northern Syria.
Villager Ali Muhammad called on international organizations and bodies to stand with the residents and stop targeting their villages. “No parties help us, neither organizations nor any other institutions, we demand organizations help us, at least to stop the shelling.”
