Syrian government responsible for refugees’ conditions: Future Syria Party

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – In a statement on Tuesday, the Future Syria Party held the Syrian government responsible for events affecting Syrians in Lebanon and other countries, the latest of which was the camp fire in the town of Miniyeh in Lebanon’s north.

A Saturday dispute between Lebanese and Syrian workers in Miniyeh resulted in a number of Lebanese locals burning tents belonging to Syrian refugees.

More than 300 refugees were forced to flee their camp, and at least four of them were transferred to the hospital, United Nations and Lebanese officials said Sunday.

A large fire broke out in a camp which housed about 75 families in the Miniyeh region, according to the UN refugee agency (UNHCR). Activists on social media circulated videos showing the massive fire that devastated the refugee camp and left hundreds homeless.

The Future Syria Party stated that the Syrian government should seek Syrians’ return to their country by solving the Syrian crisis, instead of holding “useless conferences” for the displaced that have no effect on the ground.

The party said that this incident is a heinous crime that intensified the disaster of refugee status in Lebanon.

This is not the first time that Syrian refugees have been subjected to abuse and expulsion from their places of residence, “and the transformation of the Syrian refugee in Lebanon into an unaccepted person comes in light of the escalation of hate speech and demand for their departure,” according to the statement.

Co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration Berivan Khalid described the incident as “sorrowful and sad,” and held the Syrian government and opposition responsible for the current condition of the Syrian people.

The camp’s 370 residents, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, were forced to flee, and at least four people were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The Lebanese army announced in a statement issued after the incident, that it had arrested two Lebanese and six young Syrians in connection with the incident, and no other details were revealed.

The statement added that the absence of the Lebanese state’s role in approaching the refugee crisis since the beginning of the war has allowed Lebanese groups to violate Syrian refugees without any legal deterrent.

The statement called on the United Nations, the international community and human rights organizations to shoulder their responsibility in “protecting displaced Syrians fleeing the hell of war.”
