Turkish shelling causes destruction in Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Turkishartillery shelling targeted villages north of the city of Manbij, causing material loses to surrounding land and houses on Monday.

The Turkish base in Ain Dadat, north of Manbij, targeted the villages of Arab Hassan and Mahsannli north of the city with heavy weapons and mortars, Manbij Military Council spokesman Shervan Darwish told North Press.

Loses were limited to material damage in the two villages where residents witnessed terrifying conditions due to the Turkish shelling, he added.

Additionally, the shelling caused no casualties, according to Darwish.

Turkish shelling on villages north of Manbij in October killed an IDP from Homs and destroyed civilian property.

During the past few weeks, Turkish forces intensified their shelling on the town of Ain Issa, north of Raqqa, amid Turkish-backed armed opposition groups’ attempts to advance which were foiled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) said in a previous statement that Russian troops in the town were pressuring the SDF to hand the town over to the Syrian government, and the Council held the Russian troops responsible for what the residents were experiencing there.

Meanwhile, in a phone call with North Press on Monday, Tel Abyad Military Council head Riyad Khalaf denied having any new discussions with Russian forces over handing Ain Issa to the Syrian government.
