Turkish bombing of Syria’s Ain Issa aims to displace civilians: Syrian Democratic Council

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Mais Binnana, a member of the Syrian Democratic Council office in Shaddadi, south of Syria’s Hasakah, said on Wednesday that the Turkish bombing of Ain Issa aims to empty the area of its residents.

For weeks, the town of Ain Issa has been witnessing continuous attacks and shelling by the Turkish army and its affiliated armed opposition groups.

In a statement to North Press, Binnana said that Turkey and Russia have common interests in targeting Ain Issa.

She indicated that Russia is trying to pressure the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to hand the town over to the Syrian government.

In October of 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements with both Russia and the United States after a military operation it launched in Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa.

Banana said that there are secret agreements between Turkey and Russia regarding the fate of the town.
