Germany repatriates 3 women, 12 children from northeast Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas said on Sunday that he was “comfortable” with the successful coordination of the process of repatriating members of German ISIS families from northeast Syria.

“There are humanitarian cases, especially children with illnesses,” Maas noted.

“The process of repatriation was work that demanded a significant effort as a result of planning and intense coordination for months,” he added.

The process was carried out in cooperation with Finland, which brought home two women and six children, according to the German Foreign Ministry.

The women and children were handed over to a delegation of the German Foreign Ministry by representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria on Saturday in the city of Qamishli.

However, the German weekly Bild am Sonntag reported that all three women had left Germany in recent years to join ISIS in Syria. The paper identified the women as Merve A., Yasmin A. and Leonora M.

On Friday, a German delegation arrived in the Autonomous Administration regions.
