Gunmen open fire on Asayish checkpoint in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen, who were riding a motorbike, shot, last night, a checkpoint of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), in the town of Hajin, east of Deir ez-Zor.
A military source in the area said that the Asayish arrested two young suspects, in connection with the attack.
The source added that before the Asayish patrol left the town, shooting renewed at the patrol, and turned into clashes between the two sides.
While no casualties reported as a result of the clashes, according to the same source.
Yesterday, a member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was killed and two others were wounded by unknown gunfire at a military post in the town of Tayyana, 50 km east of Deir ez-Zor.
The Deir ez-Zor countryside is witnessing an escalation of assassinations carried out by ISIS sleeper cells.
In November, three civilians lost their lives in two separate shooting incidents in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The SDF controls the northern bank of the Euphrates in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
While the Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias control the southern bank.
The SDF accuses the Syrian government, Iranian militias, and ISIS sleeper cells of destabilizing security and stability in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
