IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish forces started on Saturday, establishing a new military post in Zawiya Mountain region, south of Idlib governorate, northwestern Syria.
The Zawiya Mountain region is witnessing almost daily clashes and mutual bombardment between government forces and the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups, while the Turkish forces continue establishing military points in the area.
The new Turkish point is about two kilometers away from the frontlines with the Syrian government forces stationed in the city of Kafr Nabl, south of Idlib.
“Turkish bulldozers have raised dirt berms on the road connecting the city of Kafr Nabl with the town of al-Bara, after a reconnaissance operation conducted by a Turkish army force,” a military source told North Press.
Kafr Nabl is under the control of the Syrian government forces, while the armed opposition groups control al-Bara.
The Turkish forces deployed dozens of soldiers, tanks, armored vehicles and logistical equipment in the vicinity of the newly established point adjacent to the government forces-held areas, according to the source.
Early in December, the Turkish forces established a military post between al-Bara and Kansafra in Zawiya Mountain in the southern countryside of Idlib.
Late in November, the Turkish army established a military post in the town of Kansafra, and another in the town of Balyun, south of Idlib.
This came after the evacuation of seven Turkish military points in the governorates of Hama, Idlib and Aleppo, the last of which was last week in Tal Tokan, east Idlib.
