Northern Syria’s Child Protection Office hands over minor to her parents

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Child Protection Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) returned a minor, who had previously joined local military forces, to her parents on Saturday.

The co-chair of the Child Protection Office in Hasakah, Khaled Jaber, and the officer of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Delara Hasaka, handed over a 16-year-old to her parents.

Jaber told North Press that the handover of the girl comes within the terms of the Convention on the Protection of Children from Armed Conflict signed with the UN.

The AANES Executive Council established the Child Protection Office late in August. This step came after an agreement signed by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of children and their use as combatants in armed conflict.

The Child Protection Office has nine branch offices located in city centers in northeast Syria, and began their work on October 20.
