Belgian delegation discusses conditions in northeastern Syria with SDC
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Belgian delegation visited northeastern Syria on Friday to discuss the Syrian issue and other issues related to Syria’s northeast with officials of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).
During the meeting, the two parties discussed the Turkish attacks and their seriousness in the region, detained ISIS militants in the area and the children and women in camps, SDC official Ilham Mattli told North Press.
The Belgian delegation consisted of parliamentarians and specialists in terrorism issues, and arrived at the Foreign Affairs Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on Friday afternoon.
“AANES seeks to provide a miniature model that present the whole of Syria,” Ilham Ahmad, Head of the SDC’s Executive Council, said during the meeting with the delegation.
“What has been achieved in northeastern Syria takes precedence over the Geneva negotiations, because the talks are taking place with Syrians and not between representatives of external parties,” Ahmad stated.
The Belgian delegation includes parliamentarians George Dalman and Koen Metsu, Philippe Vansteenkiste and Rudi Melek from the International Association of Victims of Terrorism, and Heidi De Pauw from Child Focus, which works to support missing and kidnapped children.
