Syrian Democratic Council condemns continued Turkish violations in Syria’s Raqqa countryside

RAQAA, Syria (North Press) – Hassan Muhammad Ali, member of the Presidential Board of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said that the continuation of the Turkish violations in Ain Issa in the countryside of Raqqa, at this time, is an exploitation of the political chaos the US is witnessing.

In an exclusive statement to North Press, Ali said, Turkey is taking advantage of the internal disputes between Washington and Moscow amid Moscow’s inability to pressure Ankara.

The Turkish policy is based on fishing in troubled waters, Ali added.

“Turkey violates two international agreements signed in the region a year ago, one with Russia, and the other with the US.”

“The two agreements provided for a ceasefire between Turkey and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF),” he stated.

He indicated that Russia and the US-led Global Coalition silence regarding the Turkish violations of the agreements “is nothing but a sign of satisfaction.”

He believed that the Turkish military actions are a cover for internal pressures that the Turkish state is witnessing in order to delude the Turkish people that their military actions outside their borders are to preserve the national security of the Turkish state.

He pointed out that there are other Turkish targets for its military actions, represented by veiled messages to the Islamic State (ISIS) affirming solidarity with it to relieve pressure on it.

“The SDF has the right to defend their regions and people.”

The SDC intends to transfer the Turkish violations of the international agreements to the UN Security Council, on the grounds that these agreements were concluded under the auspices of the US and Russia, according to him.

“Although the victims of the Turkish offensives are civilians, no country has condemned these violations, even the guarantor countries,” he added.

“The presidents of these countries are responsible of this matter, as they signed the agreements.”

In October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with the Russians, and the other with the Americans, but Ain Issa is still witnessing frequent bombing and targeting.

The town includes points for the Syrian government forces and a base for the Russian forces, which were stationed in the town following understandings with the SDF last year during the Turkish invasion of northern Syria.
