Levant Front arrests young men of Syria’s northern city of Tel Abyad

TEL ABYAD, Syria (North Press) – The Levant [Shamia] Front arrested on Tuesday, young men in the city of Tel Abyad (Gre Spi), north of Syria’s Raqqa, in connection with the fighting that took place days ago between members of a local tribe and the Turkish backed armed opposition groups.

On Saturday, two young men were killed and two others were wounded, including a woman, as a result of clashes between al-Mashhour tribe of the village Tel Abyad Sharqi and the Levant Front.

The Levant Front spread in several areas of northeastern Syria, and it is one of the components of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army and consists of the largest armed military groups.

A local source told North Press that the group deployed, on Tuesday evening, several checkpoints on the outskirts of the city of Tel Abyad and in the village of Ain al-Arous, in addition to other checkpoints.

The source added that the group members arrested up to 15 young people from the area, including members of the Civil Police, which is a security apparatus operating in areas controlled by the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups.

The city of Tel Abyad, on the Syrian-Turkish border, has been under the control of Turkish military forces and its affiliated armed opposition groups since October of last year.
