Virtual Economic Conference was held in Iraq’s Kurdistan region

ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Monday, a virtual economic conference of two days after Coronavirus for Iraqi’s Kurdistan region, was held with the participation of the US Deputy Secretary of Energy, and some American companies.

The President of Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq, Masrour Barzani, called on American companies to go more to work in the region, as more than 100 American companies are currently operating in the region.

The oil production points in the Kurdistan region are distributed among 52 “blocks” in which companies of many nationalities operate, including five major American companies.

“The commission has completed the single window system, and there are many facilities to attract foreign investors to work in the region,” said the chairman of National Investment Commission (NIC) in Iraqi’s Kurdistan region, in a press statement followed by North Press.

“The decision-making mechanism will become faster, and we will implement reform steps in the economic and administrative fields in the country,” the Prime Minister of Kurdistan said in his intervention during the conference.

The Kurdistan government wants to “diversify sources of revenue, instead of relying on oil revenues only,” and the government seeks “to attract investments towards the agricultural and technology sectors.”

US has long-standing relations with the Kurdistan Regional Government in the field of energy, security and defense, according to statements by Steve Lutes, Vice President, Middle East Affairs of American Chambers of Commerce.
