SDF official: Russian grantor keeps watching Turkish attacks on Syria’s Ain Issa

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Tuesday that Russian forces kept watching to the shelling by Turkish forces and its backed armed opposition groups on the town of Ain Issa and the neighboring villages north east Syria.

Turkish shelling has been on-going on Ain Issa and surroundings north Raqqa since Monday.

“Turkish forces and the mercenaries affiliated with it are violating all ceasefire agreements signed with the Russian grantor that do not response to the aggression,” Majed Shebli, SDF official, told North Press.

Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements with both America and Russia in October 2019, however Ain Issa was still witnessing constant shelling and targeting.

“Turkish violations have worsened during the past few days,” the official stated.

Turkey aims to destabilize the region and threatening civilians of blocking the M4 Highway, he added.

Turkish forces and its backed armed opposition groups shelled on Sunday Ain Issa wounding three civilians including a three-year-old child.

Shebli pointed out that the Turkish failure to adhere to the signed ceasefire agreements, gave SDF the right to response to the shelling according to the legitimate right of defense.

“Protecting civilians is our responsibility, and despite the international silence regarding all those violations, we will go ahead protecting our people in the area and response in kind to any Turkish violation in the area,” he confirmed.

Despite the random Turkish shelling “people of Ain Issa did not flee their houses,” he pointed out.

Ain Issa includes Syrian government posts and a Russian base that has been found after understandings with SDF last year after the Turkish aggression North East Syria.
