Significant decline of Syrian pound against US dollar

QAMISHLI (North Press) – The Syrian pound recorded on Sunday, a decline in its value after its gradual decline against foreign currencies and commodities over the past few days.

The exchange rate of the US dollar against the local pound in Damascus on Sunday, was 2,930 Syrian pounds (SYP) for sale and 2,900 SYP for purchase, according to the Syrian Leira al-Yawm website.    

In Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other Turkish-backed Syrian armed opposition groups, the dollar recorded 2,840 SYP for sale and 2,810 for purchase. 

While in Qamishli, it recorded 2,855 SYP for sale and 2,850 for purchase until the hour of this news.

Early in November, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad revealed that the economic problem in Syria is related to the loss of billions of dollars in Lebanon’s banks.

Since June 17, the United States has imposed a package of sanctions against the Syrian government under the Caesar Act, which targets figures and entities linked to the Syrian government.

Since May, the Syrian pound has gradually fallen to record levels, which has exacerbated a living crisis in the country.
