Agricultural Community Development Company begins distributing wheat seeds in Syria’s Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The Agricultural Community Development Company in the Euphrates Region, in coordination with the Economic Committee in Kobani, began on Thursday, to distribute wheat seeds to farmers after complaints about their delay in cultivating their lands.

Khalil Sheikh Muslim, a spokesman of the Economic Committee in Kobani, told North Press that a resolution has been issued to deliver wheat seeds to farmers through economic and agricultural committees in towns and districts, with the aim of preventing gatherings due to the spread of the coronavirus.

“The turn of the towns was drawn by lot, as seed distribution began in the town of Belk, south of Kobani, and the seeds would be distributed in the village of Minas, west of Kobani, after two days,” Muslim added.

The city of Kobani is followed by eight towns and districts “the town of Belk, the district of Kobani, the town of Shiran, the town of Binder, the town of Jalabiyya, the town of al-Qanayah, the town of Telxazal, and the town of Tashluk.”

Muslim indicated that farmers in the town of Sarrin, in addition to the towns of Qaderiyeh and Rummaleh of Sarin, will receive seeds in the town of Sarrin in conjunction with the distribution of seeds in Kobani countryside.

180 tons of seeds will be distributed in the town of Belak, which has 66 villages, provided that the distribution in the town will be completed within two days, at a rate of distribution of 80 tons per day, according to Muslim.

Seeds will also be distributed to the villages of Kobani district in the village of Minas, after seed distribution is completed in the town of Belk.

Qader Muhammad Qadi, a farmer, said that he had prepared the seed receipt papers about a week ago in the city of Kobani, but he did not receive the seeds due to the imposition of the lockdown.

Qadi added that he was called today to receive wheat seeds in the municipality of Belk because his village belongs to it, and he can’t go to the city due to the lockdown.

He indicated that trucks of wheat seeds arrived in the town of Belk and began distributing wheat seeds to farmers.

He indicated that receiving wheat in the town was better for them than receiving it in the city of Kobani because of the short distance for them, as his village is only hundreds of meters away from the place of receipt.
