Russian-Turkish joint patrol in Kobani’s north of Syria

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – the Russian and Turkish forces conducted a joint patrol on Thursday, in the western countryside of Kobani, northern Syria, in accordance of the fifth day of the total lockdown due to coronavirus in the region. 

The patrol, consisting of eight Russian and Turkish military vehicles set out from the village of Ashma, 20 km west of Kobani, reaching Tel Sha’ir, 4 km west of Kobani.

The patrol returned to the village of Ashma, where it started, after passing by many villages west of Kobani.

The Turkish armored vehicles returned to Turkey through the gate near the village of Ashma, while the Russian military vehicles returned to their position near al-Iza’a region, west of Kobani.

This patrol is the 33rd of its kind in the region since the agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in October 2019. 

The Russian Military Police conducted the 32nd joint patrol with Turkey in the southern countryside of Kobani on November 12.

On October 22, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reached a memorandum of understanding that included conducting joint patrols in northeastern Syria at a depth of 10 km, except for the city of Qamishli.
