Assassination of government commander in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor countryside
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A brigadier general of the Syrian government forces (SAA) was killed, on Wednesday, in an armed ambush in Mayadin desert in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
“Brig. Gen. Bashir Salim Ismail was assassinated while crossing a patrol of government forces in Mayadeen Desert,” a military source from the government forces on the southern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor told North Press.
Brigadier general Bashir Salim Ismail is of Alawite origin, from the town of Draykish in Tartus Governorate on the Syrian coast, according to the source.
The source added that all the members of the group accompanying the brigadier general were killed.
According to a civilian source in the southern bank, ISIS carried out the attack.
Recent assassinations and the planting of booby-trapped bombs by ISIS cells have been repeated on the northern and southern banks of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor.
