Coronavirus patient dies of hypoxia in government hospital in Syria’s Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Suwayda governorate, in Syria’s south, is witnessing a remarkable increase in the number of infections with the coronavirus, in light of the weakness of the government health system and the absence of preventative measures.

A thirty-year-old man infected with coronavirus died of hypoxia in the isolation ward inside the government hospital in the city of Suwayda on Monday.

A medical source from inside the government hospital told North Press that the deceased’s health condition began to deteriorate four days ago, and he was suffering from a shortage of blood platelets.

A few weeks ago, the problem of hypoxia in isolation rooms in the hospital began to worsen, despite repeated statements by government health authorities that treatment is available, according to the source.

As of Monday, Suwayda governorate recorded 251 cases, including 13 deaths and 131 cases of recovery, according to figures published by the government’s Ministry of Health in Damascus.
