Syria’s Autonomous Administration evacuates 4th group of Syrian families from Hawl Camp
HAWL, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of Syrian families from Deir ez-Zor are preparing to leave northeast Syria’s infamous Hawl Camp and return to their areas, according to a new method determined by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)
Sheikhmous Ahmed, Director of the Office of Refugee and Displaced Affairs in the Autonomous Administration, said that “on Monday, the fourth group of the Syrian families will leave Hawl Camp.”
“This group consists of 120 families, including 515 people from different parts of Deir ez-Zor, and the Administration is responsible for transferring them to their areas,” Ahmed added.
The former method of releasing the camp’s residents was through guarantees by tribal sheikhs and leaders, Ahmed said in an exclusive statement with North Press.
The new method is voluntary evacuation for those who want to leave, after receiving all necessary documentation, according to Ahmed.
Transferring Syrian families to either Syrian government-held areas or opposition-held areas “is stopped now, because there is no method that grants them a safe arrival to their areas,” he added.
He pointed out that there must be an international party to secure their safety; however, the Autonomous Administration is still discussing the issue with both UN and the International Red Crescent.
Hawl Camp houses more than 60,000 people, including thousands of women and children of ISIS militants, and the number of the Syrians is almost 23,000, according to Sheikhmous Ahmed.
