Autonomous Administration’s Child Protection Office meets with UNICEF in Syria’s Raqqa

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Child Protection Office affiliated with the Autonomous Administration in North East Syria (AANES) announced on Sunday that it has tackled several complaints regarding child labor and recruitment.

This came in a statement by Morhaf Abdullah, co-chair of the Child Protection Office, on the official website of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration.

“The Office held a meeting with UNICEF discussing child protection issues, including several terms such as child recruitment,” Abdullah said.

He added that they met with several organizations concerned with children’s rights in order to coordinate with them and discuss the mechanism of supporting children in northeast Syria.

The AANES Executive Council established the Child Protection Office late in August. This step came after an agreement signed by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of children and their use as combatants in armed conflict.

The co-chair of the Child Protection Office said that they also held a meeting with representatives of the UNICEF Middle East and Africa office about the terms of the agreement signed between the SDF and the UN.
