Attempt to kill an Iraqi working as night watchman in Syria’s Hawl camp
HAWL, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, unidentified masked men shot an Iraqi who worked as a night watchman in the market of Hawl camp, 40 kilometers east of the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
Hawl Camp, which houses about 64,000 people, including thousands of women and children of ISIS militants, is classified as one of the most dangerous refugee camps in the world.
Hawl camp includes the largest number of women and children of ISIS families, whose number reaches 11,000, according to the camp administration.
The Iraqi, known as Thamer al-Iraqi, 23, who was in front of his house in the first sector of the camp, when the attackers opened fire on him and hit him with two shots in the back and chest, to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in the camp searched for the perpetrators.
The camp witnessed frequent killings, especially after the Turkish invasion of northeastern Syria in October of last year, with ISIS sleeper cells thought to be behind many of them.
Last Monday, unknown assailants killed Suleiman Muhammad al-Hammadi, head of the Iraqi Refugee Council in Hawl camp, east of Hasakah, while he was in front of his house in the same sector.
Last September, the camp recorded eleven attempted killings, most of which targeted displaced Iraqis within the camp, two of whom were killed, according to the camp administration.
