Syria’s Suwayda notables appeal to al-Karama Forces to end local group’s violations
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Notables in Suwayda governorate, southern Syria, appealed to the Sheikh al-Karama Forces (armed group composed of Druze locals) on Thursday to end the violations committed by the Syrian intelligence-backed Atil armed group.
A source told North Press that a meeting between notables of the town of Atil, northern Suwayda, and leaders of Sheikh al-Karama Forces was held in the town of Sheneira, southeastern Suwayda.
The source added that the delegate met with Yahya al-Hajjar, leader of al-Karama Forces, to reveal actions carried out by Raji Falhout, leader of Atil group.
The Atil group is supported by the Syrian Military Security Department, as its members hold special missions by which they cross all military checkpoints without being checked, according to the source.
The delegate demanded the al-Karama Forces disarm the Atil group and remove its members deployed in the northern countryside of the governorate. The source pointed out that Yahya al-Hajjar promised to end the “shameless acts” committed by Atil group in the near future.
On November 6, the group killed the young Majd Sereiwi and threw his body in front of the National Hospital after mutilating it.
The Atil group was established in 2015 with the support and finance of the government Security Military Department as an auxiliary militia.
