12 Syrian government soldiers killed in Syria’s Hama

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, a number of Syrian soldiers were killed in an attack by unidentified militants in the countryside of Salamiyah city, eastern Hama governorate, northern Syria.

Pro-government media outlets reported that 12 Syrian government soldiers were killed and five others were captured in clashes in Salamiyah.

Local sources from the city pointed out that the bodies of 11 government soldiers were transferred to the city’s public hospital. The sources told North Press that militants, suspected to be members of ISIS, attacked government forces’ posts near Abu Fayyad Dam with medium weapons.

ISIS, which operates actively in the Syrian Desert, is still conducting military operations against the Syrian government through setting ambushes, planting bombs and mines, and launching surprise attacks.

Meanwhile, the government and its Russian ally continue constant air strikes on ISIS posts in the Syrian Desert in Hama, Homs, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor.

The sources added that violent clashes erupted between them, resulting in the killing and wounding of more than 15 members of the Syrian government forces.

Since ISIS’ defeat in the town of Baghouz in March 2019, ISIS has transformed into cells scattered in the Syrian Desert, separate areas of Deir ez-Zor, and other areas in Syria.

Since that time, at least 900 members of the Syrian government forces and their affiliated groups have been killed in attacks carried out by ISIS elements in the Syrian Desert, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
