Coronavirus infections spike amid medical shortages in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – During the past few days, the three government hospitals in Syria’s Suwayda have been witnessing overcrowding of people with coronavirus symptoms.
The corridors of the hospital and the emergency department were full of those with coronavirus symptoms, Sameh Rawand, a nurse in a government hospital in Suwayda, told North Press.
Rawand pointed out the hospital’s inability to conduct medical swabs and make chest x-rays for all people.
“We cannot do anything for them; even the attending physician subjects people to a routine check and asks people to avoid gatherings because there are not enough medical swabs for all,” he said.
The situation has worsened as “yesterday, dozens of people who had confirmed symptoms of coronavirus came to the emergency and thoracic departments,” according to a doctor in Salkhad Hospital.
Shahba city in the northeast Suwayda countryside has the highest number of coronavirus infections, according to a statement by a medical center in Shahba city.
All the announced numbers of infections by the Suwayda Health Board were incorrect, a medical source from the Health Board in Suwayda revealed.
“The real number is much more than the recorded ones, and I do not know why they do not inform people of the real situation of the coronavirus outbreak in the area,” he added.
According to the announced numbers, the number of coronavirus infections in Suwayda reached 176, including 105 recoveries and ten deaths.
