Government fuel company stops distributing industrial-grade fuel in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An official source from a fuel company in the Syrian government said on Sunday that allocations of industrial fuel have stopped being distributed.
The owners of factories and generators must submit an application for industrial-grade fuel according to a statement published by the pro-government al-Watan newspaper.
The governor issued a decision to form a committee of representatives of eight sections including fuel, industry, finance, and catering, and it made an evaluation to set monthly fuel allocations.
Regarding hospitals, the committee would evaluate the needed allocations in each hospital, in both government and private hospitals in Damascus, and wrote a letter to the fuel company in this regard, the sources added.
The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection issued a decision on October 19 in which it raised the price of industrial-grade and commercial-grade fuel from 296 to 650 Syrian pounds (SYP).
Drivers in Damascus abstained from working in order to trade diesel, local sources told North Press. Drivers bought the diesel at the government set price in order to sell it on the black market for double the price, according to the source.
Industrial-grade fuel is used in several fields in Syria, such as in food and medical factories. It is especially critical for use in generators due to constant electricity blackouts.
