Bodies of Turkish-backed Syrian opposition militants found in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the bodies of two members of the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups were found in northwestern Syria’s Idlib. Sources suggest that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) was behind the incident.

A local source told North Press that local residents found the two bodies near Thalatheen Street in Idlib city.

The two were killed at dawn on Monday by gunfire originating from the HTS-controlled Ain Sheib checkpoint. The victims are cousins from Idlib city, according to the source.

North Press was unable to determine the reasons behind the killings, though there has been popular discontent and calls for demonstrations and demands for the perpetrators to be held accountable.

Most of the city of Idlib is held by HTS, in addition to other groups fighting within its ranks.
