Turkey withdraws from military post in Syria’s rural Aleppo

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Recently, Turkish military forces started evacuating a military observation point in the western countryside of Aleppo which has been besieged by Syrian government forces since the beginning of 2020.

Syrian government forces, with Russian support, started a military operation in early 2020 in the de-escalation zone, eventually besieging 13 Turkish military points.

A military source told North Press that the Turkish forces started withdrawing from their third observatory post, located near the town of Kabtan al-Jabal to the west of Aleppo, on Sunday.

The source added that large trucks carrying Turkish military vehicles left the Turkish point in Kabtan al-Jabal and settled in the Turkish point near the city of Darat Izza, west of Aleppo.

The source further explained that the evacuation process could last for days, until the completion of the dismantling of the point and the transfer of the technical and logistical equipment there.

This is the fourth point from which the Turkish military forces have withdrawn in less than a month, after evacuating the points at Morek, Sher Maghar, and Ma’ar Hattat in the governorates of Idlib and Hama.

As of October 2017, Turkey began establishing military points in northwestern Syria after an agreement with Russia to establish a de-escalation zone.
