Turkey evacuate important military point in Syria’s Idlib after two in Hama
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish forces started on Sunday, evacuating an important military point on the M5 Highway, south of Idlib, after the evacuation of two military points in Hama.
A source of National Front for Liberation, a Turkish-backed Syrian opposition coalition, told North Press that about 50 military vehicles, including trucks carrying logistical and engineering equipment, left Ma’ar Hattat checkpoint in the countryside of Idlib.
The village of Ma’ar Hattat is located between the cities of Khan Shayhkun and Ma’rat al-Nu’man, southern Idlib, which gives it strategic importance as it overlooks the M5 Aleppo-Damascus Highway.
The source added that the withdrawing vehicles from Ma’ar Hattat headed to the areas held by the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups and stationed at the Turkish point in the village of Nahliya, south of Idlib.
The Turkish forces have two military points in Ma’ar Hattat; it is more likely that it will start evacuating the second point after completing with the first post, according to the source.
Earlier this month, the Turkish forces started evacuating Sher Maghar military point, after they completed withdrawal from Morek, its largest military point in the de-escalation zone.
A well-informed source told North Press that the Turkish forces will finish the process of evacuating the Sher Maghar point in Shahshabo Mountain by Sunday evening.
The Syrian forces supported by Russia, started a military operation in the early 2020, in the de-escalation zone ended up with sieging 13 Turkish military points.
As of October 2017, Turkey began establishing military points in northwestern Syria after it an agreement with Russia to establish a de-escalation zone.
