Casualties due to car bomb in Azaz, Syria’s northwest

AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – An armed man was killed and others were injured on Saturday, due to a car bomb in the countryside of Azaz in the northern countryside of Aleppo, northwestern Syria.

A military source stated to North Press that an explosive device was put in a car belonging to the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) and was exploded near Shamarekh camp, on the road between the camp and the village of Shamarin, north of Azaz.

The explosion resulted in one death and three injuries of the members of the Sultan Murad group, SNA most prominent armed group.

Last October, a judge died after an IED was placed in his car which was exploded in the city of Azaz.

The city of Azaz has been subjected to security chaos since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, when Syrian opposition groups captured it in 2012. Since this time, it has fallen under the control of ISIS, the Free Syrian Army, and al-Nusra Front, finally falling under the control of the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition after Turkey launched Operation Euphrates Shield in 2016.
