ISIS sleeper cells shot Iraqi refugee in Hawl camp, northeastern Syria
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Sources from Hawl camp in the countryside of the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, told North Press on Tuesday that an Iraqi refugee was shot, on Monday, by ISIS sleeper cells.
The sources added that Basel Hussein al-Ali, 26, who resides in the second sector designated for Iraqi refugees in Hawl camp, was hit by a bullet in his pelvic.
The sources stated that ISIS sleeper cells were targeting another resident of the camp, but the bullet hit al-Ali by mistake.
In September, the camp recorded 11 killing attempts, most of which targeted Iraqi refugees inside the camp, two of whom were killed, according to the camp management.
In October, an Iraqi refugee died in Hawl Camp when unknown assailants riding a motorbike shot him in one of the camp’s markets.
Hawl camp includes the largest number of women and children of ISIS families, whose number reaches 11,000, according to the camp administration.
The total number of its residents are more than 65,000, distributed over 13,000 tents, and among them are more than 40,000 children.
