Civilian casualties due to landmine explosions in northwestern Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Two children and three workers were injured on Monday, as a result of the explosion of two landmines in an agricultural land in northwestern Syrian regions.

A local source told North Press that the explosion resulted in the injury of two children, who were in the agricultural lands near the town of Harbnafsa, south of Hama governorate.

The explosion caused the amputation of the foot of one of the two children, who are residents of the village of Deir al-Fardis, south of Hama, and were transferred to nearby hospitals, according to the source.

A civilian was killed and another injured in a similar explosion in the agricultural land in the town of al-Bara in the southern countryside of Idlib, another source added.

On October 28, four workers died and several others were injured due to a landmine explosion near the city of Khan Sheikhoun west of Idlib, within Syrian government-held areas.

Another landmine explosion took place on Monday morning, near the city of Khan Sheikhoun, killed a policeman and a student from the region.

According to statistics of the Syrian Institute for Justice and Documentation (an institute specialized in documenting violations and war crimes in Syria), the number of victims of mines explosions and remnants of war in Syria since 2016 has reached 1,552 civilians all over the country.

In July 2019, the United Nations warned that the lives of more than ten million Syrians were at risk due to their presence in areas planted with mines and remnants of war.
