Three severely injured in Turkish shelling of Syria’s Ain Issa

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, medical sources told North Press that five civilians were injured by Turkish shelling on Ain Issa; three of them lost their limbs.

Turkish forces and Turkish-backed opposition militant groups shelled the town of Ain Issa, coinciding with an attack on Ain Issa Camp.

The administrative hospital of Martyr Omar Alloush, Khamelin Shaheen, said that they received an injured 25-year-old who had his left foot amputated, a 20-year-old with his left hand amputated, and a 35-year-old with his right hand and right foot amputated.

Turkish-backed opposition militant groups tried to attack the town, but Internal Security Forces (Asayish) responded to the attempt.

”The three amputations were diverted to hospitals in Raqqa, and two other civilians were lightly injured in the shelling,” Shaheen added.

The town includes Syrian government forces and a Russian base, which stationed in the town following an understanding with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) last year during the Turkish invasion of northern Syria.

Turkey signed with both Russia and the US two ceasefires in October 2019, but Ain Issa is experiencing repeated shelling and targeting.

On October 16, a Turkish bombardment on Ain Issa killed one child and injured another, followed by a condemnation by US envoy to Syria James Jeffrey for the bombing.

Witnesses from the town told North Press that dozens of Turkish artillery shells landed just after midnight yesterday on Ain Issa and its surroundings.

They added that two shells landed on civilian homes inside the town and the damage was limited.
