Turkey to withdraw from besieged military points in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces are preparing to withdraw from all their military points besieged by Syrian government forces in northwest Syria’s Idlib, informed sources told North Press.

Turkish forces will withdraw from the points of Morek, Shir Meghar, Sarman, and Ma’ar Httat to move to other areas in southern Idlib, according to a knowledgeable source.

12 Turkish points in the de-escalation zone have been under siege after government forces took over areas in the northern Hama countryside and southern Idlib countryside early this year.

The Turkish forces in the ninth monitoring point near Morek, northern Hama, prepared to withdraw in coordination with Russian troops, according to the source.

“Turkish forces dismantled the equipment, watch towers and the Internet inside the point on Sunday afternoon,” the source added.

20 Turkish military vehicles gathered at the entrance to the point amid a state of alert, the source stated.

This took place in conjunction with military movements by Syrian government forces that were besieging the point.

“The Turkish decision to withdraw was issued on Thursday so that the Turkish forces could move freely in the area,” a military source from Turkish-backed opposition groups told North Press.

Turkey established military points in northwest Syria starting in October 2017 after reaching an agreement with Russia regarding establishing a de-escalation zone.
