Our presence here aims to support northeastern Syria’s people: American diplomat

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Todd Untersehr, a diplomat from the US State Department, said on Tuesday that the US presence in northeastern Syria aims to support the people of the region and work with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) to find political solutions.

This came in a speech delivered by Untersehr at the opening of the project to rehabilitate the hospital in the town of Abu Hamam in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

“The US government has provided a number of projects for the people of Deir ez-Zor to help rebuild the community,” Untersehr said, adding that “this rebuilding process will take some time.”

Untersehr noted that his country supports the Autonomous Administration, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, and tribal leaders in the region.

The presence of the US forces in northeastern Syria is to help the population and rebuild the region, according to him.

On Monday, a delegation of the Global Coalition attended the opening project of the rehabilitation of Hajin hospital in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor which was launched after claims and criticism by the residents.

The Global Coalition forces, in coordination with the SDF, took part in raids to pursue ISIS sleeper cells.

The presence of the Global Coalition forces in Deir ez-Zor is limited to the Omar and Koniko oil fields east of Deir ez-Zor.
