Casualties in landmine explosion in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A civilian was killed and two others were injured on Wednesday as a result of a landmine explosion in the village of Husayniyah, north of the city of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
Hachem al-Ali died in the explosion, while Muhammad Ismail and Muhammad al-Khedr were injured by a landmine explosion believed to be planted by ISIS remnants, a local source told North Press.
The source added that the three men were employees at the Directorate of Agriculture of the Syrian Government in Deir ez-Zor.
Meanwhile, another civilian named Amleh Muheisen was injured as two unknown persons who were riding a motorcycle opened fire on him in the city of Shehail in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The injured man, who was working at the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, was hospitalized for treatment.
On Tuesday, ISIS sleeper cells threatened women in the city of Buseira under the pretext that they did not adhere to “legal dress.”
The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor is witnessing a rise in activity by ISIS sleeper cells which is reflected in the increase in assassinations, mine-laying, and offensives using motorcycles, according to local sources.
