Three people wounded, dozens arrested by Turkish-backed groups in Syria’ northeastern Serekaniye

SEREKANIYE, Syria (North Press) – Al least three civilians were wounded in a demonstration against the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups, in Syria’s Turkish-held northeastern town of Serekaniye (Ras al-Ain), local sources said on Saturday.

Dozens of people in the village of Alouk on the western outskirts of Serekaniye protested against looting of motorcycles by members of the Turkish-backed armed groups.

Local sources told North Press that gunmen from Mu’taz armed group, whose members are from Qalamoun areas, shot the villagers when they protested against looting in the village.

Three civilians were injured in a sporadic shooting, and about ten people were arrested by the armed group, according to the source.

Turkish Forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition groups took control of the cities of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad and their surrounding countryside in October of 2019.

Since then, residents in the region have reported many human rights abuses, including theft, looting, assault, kidnapping and murder.
