Precautionary measures in Hawl Camp due to lack of medical services

HAWL, Syria (North Press) – Difficult humanitarian conditions experienced in Hawl Camp, eastern Syria’s city of Hasakah, recently regarding medical aspects due to lack of medical support by international organizations.

Hawl camp contains about 65 thousand people including Iraqi refugees, displaced Syrians, and families of ISIS militants.

Two women in the Iraqi section of Hawl camp said that they were not receiving the necessary medical treatments, especially after signs of the Coronavirus spreading in the camp.

One of them added that she visited both al-Bir Charity and the Kurdish Red Crescent a week ago, but she did not get a sterilizer for her child with asthma.

A number of medical organizations are active in the camp, most notably the Kurdish Red Crescent (KRC), Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

But critical and emergency cases that require intensive care are transferred to hospitals in Hasakah.

Two weeks ago, the first case of Covid-19 virus was recorded for a woman residing in the seventh sector, after recording the case, camp administration imposed precautionary measures and isolated the woman in a special quarantine.

Kurdish Red Crescent has also closed many of its departments within the camp and temporarily reduced the number of its workers.

Mahmoud Ali, who is in charge of the Red Crescent Medical Point, said that they had temporarily reduced the number of staff at the point in order to reduce contacting.

He also said that they are about to impose strict measures in the coming days.

He said, “preventive measures will be applied to those entering the point, whether they are workers, administrators, patients and auditors, through “placing a tank of sterilized water with chlorine to wash hands, in addition to imposing the wearing of masks.”
