QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) –Muhammad Ismail, an official in the Kurdish National Council (ENKS, a coalition of Syrian Kurdish political parties allied with the opposition Syrian National Coalition), said that they accomplished major progress towards a unified Kurdish political position during the negotiations with the Kurdish National Unity parties.
He pointed out that the negotiations tackled the Autonomous Administration and the intra-Kurdish partnership in it.
In a special statement to North Press after the General Secretariat meeting of ENKS on Tuesday, Muhammad Ismail said that ENKS will take part in all main departments and facilities of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria.
The partnership should be shared equally with the Kurdish parties, and with the participation of other communities in northeast Syria, according to Ismail.
He believes that these negotiations are difficult, but they are positive for the interest of the Kurds and other communities in general, especially as the USA is the guarantor and sponsor for the agreement.
Regarding the exclusion of ENKS representative Hawas Akid from the negotiations, Ismail said that the decision has “neither been adopted nor rejected yet; it is the decision of the head of the Syrian National Coalition Naser Hariri.”
On September 14, Hariri announced that Akid, the only Kurdish representative in the Coalition, is no longer a representative of the Coalition. This exclusion reportedly comes after Akid engaged in intra-Kurdish talks with the Democratic Union Party (PYD, the leading party in Syria’s autonomous northeast) in France, which angered Turkish officials who support the SNC. Akid also expressed views critical of the Turkish occupation of the Kurdish-majority region of Afrin and the violations committed by Turkish-backed armed groups there.
He further stated that they held an online meeting with the presidency of the Syrian National Coalition with the attendance of ENKS representatives, during which they informed the international parties of the matter.
Ismail expressed the ENKS position regarding the memorandum of understanding signed between the Syrian Democratic Council and Peoples’ Will Party in Moscow, he said that they neither accept nor reject it.
He added that the memorandum had positive points, and it is important to them that any Kurdish agreement with other political party should “Highlights the Kurdish question and confess the Kurds rights in Syria.”
