Former ISIS member spotted kidnapping civilian with Turkish-backed groups in Syria’s Tel Abyad

TEL ABYAD, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, photos showed a former ISIS security member with Turkish-backed armed groups kidnapping a civilian from the city of Tel Abyad (Gre-Spi).

Activists posted photos of three members of the Turkish-backed Glory Corps and Levant Front groups, driving a car with a handcuffed civilian from the city of Tel Abyad, showing clear signs of torture.

One of the three people was Raghed al-Dahish, a former ISIS security member, now working for the Turkish-backed Levant Front, according to the Violation Documentation Center in North Syria.

Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, al-Dahish was a member of the opposition’s Qadisiyah Brigade before joining the Islamic State prior to 2015, according to the European Centre for Counterterrorism and Intelligence Studies.

According to local civilians, three militants took the kidnapped civilian to one of their prisons in Tel Abyad after insulting and humiliating him in front of his family.

Tel Abyad city has been under the control of Turkish-backed armed opposition groups since November 2019.

Reports by local and international organizations accuse the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups of practicing widespread violations against civilians in northern Syria.
