Four sisters drown in Euphrates River, Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A family in the town of al-Buseirah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor lost four girls, who drowned in the Euphrates River on Sunday.
“The four sisters were aged 7 to 12 years old and were from the family of Hussein al-Nasrah,” Mohammad al-Shebli, a resident of al-Buseirah, told North Press.
“The four sisters went to the river for swimming, and the incident took place at 3:00 p.m.,” he said.
Al-Shebli added that the residents were able to lift the bodies from the river.
During the past months, the rate of drowning in the Euphrates River increased in different regions in conjunction with the increasing demand for swimming amid high temperatures.
Since its establishment in early 2018, the diving squad of the Initial Response Team in Raqqa has managed to lift more than 60 bodies from the Euphrates River and save 20 young people from sinking.
