Unknown gunmen target security forces in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen targeted a vehicle belonging to the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in the east of Deir ez-Zor on Saturday.
A source from the Asayish told North Press that unidentified armed men planted an explosive device on the path of one of their vehicles near Ziban roundabout.
The explosive device detonated on Saturday when an Asayish vehicle passed near the town.
The losses were limited to material losses, and no casualties were recorded, according to the source.
Security forces started an investigation in order to identify the perpetrator, the source confirmed.
The Deir ez-Zor Military and Civil Councils accuse the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) of carrying out the attack.
Meanwhile, a mine exploded on Friday near an Asayish vehicle in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, resulting in material losses.
On Thursday unknown gunmen assassinated an official from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Basira in the east of Deir ez-Zor.
A knowledgeable source told North Press that the SDF official, who was called Abu Hamam, was assassinated by masked gunmen who shot him in Basira city and fled.
Since the assassination of one of the elders of the Akidat tribe in late August, the SDF, civilians, soldiers, and leaders have been repeatedly assassinated and attacked, while the Syrian government is accused of creating chaos.
