SDF releases ISIS suspects in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) released 18 detainees suspected of belonging to the Islamic State (ISIS) on Saturday after tribal mediation, a tribal notable who preferred not to be named told North Press.
He said that those released were arrested from the towns of Ziban, Shuhail, and Tayyana in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor during the recent campaign launched by the SDF.
In cooperation with the Global Coalition and in coordination with the Iraqi Army, the SDF launched the “Deterrence of Terrorism” campaign in June to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in the Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor countryside.
At the end of the campaign, the SDF announced that its forces arrested 141 members and ISIS suspects, including a senior official.
“The release is providing that the detainees are not stained with the blood of the Syrians, and that new batches of detainees may be released in the coming period,” the tribal notable pointed out.
